The devil whispered in my ear...
In this podcast I'm down the beach with the dogs and getting rather wet from the rain and the surf.

I've recently got passionate about running again and setting myself some pretty big goals.
In November this year I'm heading to Everest base camp and a week from now (Saturday 17th June) I'm running my first trail half marathon which is a very tough course. I'm excited to be running these distances again having been out of action for quite sometime having had a fall back in November when I damaged my shoulder whilst on a climb.

Last Saturday I did my first race of the year which was a 10k course around Abersoch, North Wales along with my friends from the running group the Llamwyr Llyn Striders. I was very happy to have smashed my personal best and ran it in 1hr 4mins and 40 seconds down from 1hr 15 mins. So I'm getting a lot fitter for sure. Not bad for a 48 year old, 6ft 2inch bloke.

Only you can take control of your life

I also share on this podcast some of my story from when I was 28 and heavily overweight, depressed and wanting to end it all, on drink and drugs and weighing in at 23 stone (322lbs). I went to the Doctors and they told me I was depressed and prescribed anti-depressants. I went back home and got angry, angry that this was all they could offer but angry at myself for getting in this position. With this anger I decided there and then to take back control and sort myself out. I started running and for someone that large it was quite painful with lots of wobble but I kept at it and then 18 months later I had shrunk myself down to 13 stone (182lbs) and finished the London Marathon in 3hrs 45 mins feeling amazing and having completely cleaned my act up.
Since that day I have used that mindset of knowing I can push myself to great effect.

The old line of 'if you think you can, or you think you can't, you're probably right' is so true.

On Wednesday last week I decided to go for a run after I had taken the dogs down the beach and by the time I had got back home, had some more breakfast my mindset was starting to change and my little negative voice was telling me to have a lazy morning, relax and not go out. So I stood up from the breakfast table and stopped listening to this voice and quickly got myself ready and out the door before any more nonsense could come forth.
12.5 miles later and with big smiles my training run was complete and it had been a wonderful run. I also hadn't run that distance since I was training for the marathon all those years ago back in 1999 so I was smiling like a Cheshire cat and feeling ready for the Coed Y Brenin trail half marathon this coming weekend.

But whilst I was on the last stretch of the run which was about a mile uphill and starting to feel tired a line came to me which I found again recently on Social Media and that line is shown in the image below. I suddenly got goosebumps and a big energy surge then speeded up to the finish. All in the mind? I think so.

It was such an amazing burst of energy that carried me the last mile and up that hill. Our minds truly are incredible and if we listen to them, they can also be darn right annoying.
I am not prepared to settle and it seems the older I get the more I want to push myself, discover more, find out more about me and what I can do.
If you've read my About me page on this site you will know that my other tipping point was the passing of my mother. This was the catalyst for the last 2 years of huge change.

In the last year of solitude, living on my own and spending time out in Mother Nature has taught me a lot about myself and given me greater strength and to recognise that all the issues of the past, I brought into my life because of what I was putting out there. My mindset, my attitude, my energy was what attracted it all.
As soon as I started to recognise this and make the changes on a daily basis, I became happier, more connected and looking for the beauty in life and amazing things then started to happen and continue to happen.
Our lives are ours to control. We are our own gurus and the sooner we start to listen to our inner wisdom the quicker we will find happiness, peace and forgiveness for ourselves, our past and those around us.

We do only get once chance at life, so isn't it important we take back control and live a life of our choosing. One of happiness, love and connection? I know you deserve it.
